The project scope included Order to Cash, Procure to Pay, Asset Maintenance, Plan to Produce, Quality, Demand Planning, Record to Report and IBP Supply and Operations Planning.

About the Company

Ascensus Specialties is a manufacturer of specialty chemicals headquartered in Elma, WA. They are the global leader in sodium borohydride chemistry and participates primarily in two end-markets: pharmaceutical drug manufacturing and pulp & paper processing. In pharmaceutical drug manufacturing, sodium borohydride is used as a reducing agent. In pulp & paper processing, sodium borohydride is used as a bleaching agent to prepare paper products for end-customer use.

Wind Point acquired Ascensus Specialties in January 2015 as an add-on for Vertellus Specialties, Inc., a former Wind Point portfolio company. Ascensus Specialties is now a standalone company under Wind Point ownership.

The Problem

Like most acquisitions, Wind Point had a very limited runway to provide Ascensus with its own end to end technology platform and fully disembark from the existing legacy technology template, without disrupting any business operations, customer orders, vendor relations, regulatory compliance mechanisms and manufacturing/supply chain rhythm. Echelon was engaged to deliver a fully functional cloud enabled ERP, integrated planning and analytics platform including all of the needed data converted to the new platform and the training of the new Ascensus staff.

The Solution

Echelon implemented SAP S/4HANA and SAP IBP for Ascensus’ manufacturing facility in Elma, Washington, Distribution Centers in Europe, India and China as well as multiple warehouses and storage locations across North America. The project was completed on time in just six months. In order to achieve this Echelon utilized an accelerated, outcome-based implementation strategy by leveraging SAP’s best practices and methodology through its team of veteran SAP experts and senior offshore team. In addition to the implementation team, Echelon is supporting and will continue to support the Ascensus through the Application Management Services (AMS) team.

Outcome

By implementing these solutions, Ascensus Specialties will realize increased efficiency and streamlined Business Processes and  increased forecast accuracy using Integrated Business Planning. They were able to eliminate previous customizations, access real-time information to support decision-making and realize IT cost savings using HANA Enterprise Cloud along with its simplified Integration and faster In-memory Database.

 

Ascensus Specialites was able to leverage the flexible Echelon Advantage model with a single blended hourly rate at a fixed monthly rate. With a lean IT department, Echelon was able to provide Advisory services, Break/Fix Support, IT Outsourcing as well as Functional and Technical support in addition to S/4HANA and IBP implementation.
